Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has said that when Rinku Singh plays well, the whole country is happy. Rinku has made a huge impact in the T20I arena since his debut earlier this year.
He has scored 248 runs in seven innings, at a stunning average of 82.66 and a strike rate of 183.7. Against South Africa in the second T20I, his power-hitting led to one of his sixes cracking the glass of the media box.
Rinku’s T20I career for India began in August against Ireland. His batting prowess was further highlighted in games against Australia last week when he scored 105 runs in five games.
It was during the second T20I against South Africa on Tuesday that Rinku shone like a star. In this game, he delivered a brilliant performance by scoring an unbeaten 68 off 39 deliveries, that included nine fours and two sixes.
Rinku’s innings came at a strike rate of 174.36, but despite his efforts, India fell short as South Africa won the game by five wickets. He is currently ranked 59th on the batters’ list.
Gambhir said that Rinku puts value in each of his innings as he has worked hard and ground it out in the domestic circuit to reach this position. He added that Rinku deserves all the success that comes his way as he hasn’t received anything with ease in his life.
“When you come in after a lot of handwork, first-class cricket and you have performed at every single stage, then you value each of your knocks. Then you start every innings like it is your first one, and you won’t take anything for granted. Whatever success he gets, I feel, he deserves it. Because Rinku Singh hasn’t got anything easily. When he does well, it’s not just him, but the entire country becomes happy,” Gambhir said while speaking on Star Sports
