Barabanki: A woman succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday after she was allegedly set on fire at a police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district. The incident took place after she allegedly refused to pay bribe to two police officers to free her husband.
The woman had alleged that the officers have repeatedly harassed her in the past.

“I urge the Chief Minister to ensure perpetrators be hanged. They put petrol on me and set me on fire. It’s the fifth time they have tried to set me ablaze,” the victim had said.
The policemen have, however, denied the charges claiming that the woman immolated herself.

According to agency reports, the woman was the mother of a journalist.
Superintendent of Police Abdul Hamid ordered suspension of police station in-charge and sub-inspector against whom cases have been lodged under various sections of the IPC.
A case has been registered in the incident.
The incident comes just few weeks after a Shahjahanpur based journalist was set ablaze allegedly on the orders of UP Minister Ram Murthi Verma.
