Three get double life term in Moga DSP murder case

Ludhaina, The trial in the much talked about murder case of Moga DSP Balraj Gill (46) and a woman, Monika (38), ended with the awarding of rigorous double life imprisonment to three prime accused today.
Harwinder Singh (alias Binder), Pritpal Singh (alias Ladoo), Umesh Karda, all residents of Talwara village, were pronounced guilty under Section 302 of the IPC for murdering the DSP and the woman. Apart from this, these accused were also awarded rigorous imprisonment for 19 years for various other offences.
A fine of Rs 6 lakh was also imposed on them. Out of that amount, Rs 4.8 lakh would be paid to the victim families as compensation.
Pronouncing the quantum of sentence, Additional Sessions Judge Priya Sood said keeping in view the manner of cold-blooded, double murder, they would undergo consecutive sentence.
Co-accused Hassanjit Singh has been awarded 7-year jail besides a fine of Rs 50,000, while DevinderPal Singh will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years apart from paying a fine of Rs 15,000. He was facing charge of tampering with the number plate of Chevrolet car being used by the DSP.
Co-accused Ravinder Pal Singh has been awarded three-year jail with fine of Rs 20,000. He was facing charge of helping other accused in disposing of the vehicles of the deceased.
DSP Gill and Monica were found murdered at a farmhouse in the Golf Link area, near Hambran Road, on February 1, 2012. At the time of the incident, the DSP did not have his service revolver or the gunmen with him.
Family of DSP remained present in the court while the sentence was pronounced. Earlier, they had moved an application seeking death for the accused.
Court relies on scientific investigation
In its 135-page verdict, Additional Sessions Judge Priya Sood heavily relied on the scientific investigation carried out by the police as regards mobile tower locations, fingerprints and footprints of the accused and a report from the Hyderabad forensic laboratory regarding picture of accused persons in the mobile phone of the DSP while going to Naina Devi
Convicts show no remorse
There was hardly any remorse on the faces of the convicts even after the pronouncement of sentence by the court. None of them looked perturbed
