TECHNICAL EDUCATION TO BE GIVEN ON IIT PATTERN IN STATE- CHANNI

Minister for Technical Education and Industrial Training Punjab Mr Charanjit Singh Channi said that the technical education in state was being given new dimensions as per need of hour and industry. He said that raising the standards of technical and vocational education in state, the syllabus in all technical colleges will be crafted on the lines of IIT pattern.

He added that major facelift will be given to the syllabus thereby tailoring it to the needs of industry and making it job oriented. This will serve as two pronged strategy giving jobs to the students as well as fuelling industrial growth in state. Under the government’s initiative of providing employment to each and every household, every student undertaking technical education is being prepared to be able to get job at national and international level.

While visit to the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Mr Channing conducted meeting with the Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, registrar Dr JS Hundal and other staff members. At the varsity, Mr Channi inaugurated the building of pharmaceutical department and the new gate of campus.
Interacting with the journalists, Mr Channi stated that major changes are being brought in the syllabus of technical education and the teachers of technical colleges too would be trained. He added that in the times to come Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University will be developed as the model university of state wherein special emphasis will be laid on education as well as campus placements. He added that statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh would be installed in the varsity campus, which will give a new look to the area. It shall also carry the rich history of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
He added that tightening its grip over the menace of copying during exams, the examinations would be conducted under CCTV camera surveillance. Also the answer booklet of every student will be made available online so that the students and his parents can see it. Besides this, if any student gets re-evaluation of his or her answer sheet conducted and the marks increase by more than 10, action will be taken against the concerned teacher. He added that if during exam, the involvement of examination center staff is found in copying, the center will be suspended. Also strict action will be taken against the staff of such center.
The heads of various departments were also present at the event.
