Election Commission appoints 15 expenditure observers in Punjab
A day after Maoists killed 25 CRPF jawans in Sukma, information and broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu accused human rights activists of ‘selective outrage’.
On April 24, the CRPF jawans were clearing roads for development works in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh when the Maoists attacked them. “This kind of cowardly act of violence by the underground extremist elements is highly deplorable,” Naidu said.
Questioning the silence of rights activists, Naidu said, “While the nation was shocked, so called sympathisers and proponents of human rights have maintained baffling silence since Monday. These activists react violently if an extremist or a terrorist is killed by the police, but stay silent when large number of jawans and innocent people get killed by those who kill and run.”
He said such acts of violence were being resorted to with tacit support from the human rights advocates, “This is being done in desperation to derail the positive narrative emerging from the ongoing efforts by the central and state governments to ensure that fruits of development reach the last of the poor by enabling rapid economic development.”
Naidu emphasised on the need for building public opinion against activists. “CRPF jawans were serving the cause of the people of the country. They paid with their precious lives while doing so. This is the highest sacrifice for the country. Their families will get the highest consideration from both the central and state governments,” he said.
