Chandigarh, September 11 – Punjab Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish a cargo hub at Mohali alongside the international airport.

Disclosing this, the Deputy CM’s media advisor Jangveer Singh said Mr Badal gave this suggestion to the PM during the latter’s visit to inaugurate the civil air terminal of the international airport at Mohali.

Mr Badal apprised the PM that a cargo terminal was necessary to give a fillip to industry as well as exports. He said besides facilitating import of industrial goods, a cargo terminal would also encourage agriculture and horticulture exports from the State. He also asserted that this would also give a boost to flower and exotic vegetable exports from the State.

The Deputy CM said presently all equipment being imported by industry was transported to Delhi and then had to be flown to Chandigarh adding to costs besides delays in delivery. He said having a cargo terminal at Mohali would boost industrial production in the region and also have a positive impact on the economy of the area.
