Sukhbir Badal sets deadline to complete the BRTS project till March 2015

  • Administrative complex to be completed by January

Amritsar,  Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today set the deadline to complete the Bus Rapid Transit System project till March 3, 2015 at the cost of 333 crore  which would include 7 corridors at important geographical points in the city.

Reviewing the ongoing development projects in Amritsar, Mr. Badal said that BRTS project would not only develop the holy city as tourist destination but it would only ease out traffic congestions and help in curbing pollution on large scale. The officials informed Deputy Chief Minister that out of 7 corridors 5 would be completed till March 3 whereas the remaining 2 would take 6 months more due to removal of transmission lines.

Talking about the delayed work in the construction of administrative complex Mr. Badal asked the PUDA to release the required funds worth Rs. 66.87 crore immediately to ensure the completion of project till January 2015. Deputy CM also asked the officials to speed up the construction work for new central jail at Village Fatehpur with the cost of Rs. 132 crore. It may be mentioned here that 40% work in this regard has already been completed.

Deputy Chief Minister has asked the Director Tourism and Cultural heritage department Mr. Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa to take up the matter with Union Government for funds for the conservation of historic Ram Bagh Garden. It was informed by the officials that conservation of building was carried out and soon it would be undertaken by the department of cultural affairs. On the issue of setting up of parking complex and tourist reception centre at Attari border, officials apprised Mr. Badal that tenders have been floated for both projects and work would be completed till December 31, 2014.

To make the Amritsar as the first safe city of the Punjab, Mr. Badal said that this project should be completed before mid of the coming year costing Rs. 40 crore. The committee for execution of the project under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary has been notified.

Reviewing the construction of 4 laning of Amritsar-Ajnala, Amritsar-Sohian FGC Road, Amritsar-Majitha-Fatehgarh Churrian Road, Amritsar-Taran Taran-Sirhali-Harike road, Mr. Badal said that all these adjoining roads should be given top priority. Principal Secretary PWD  Mr. P.S.Aujla informed the Deputy Chief Minister that work on some of these roads were delayed by 2 months due to shifting of electric lines by the PSPCL and the department would complete these projects before December 2014.

Prominent amongst present in the meeting included Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, Chairman District Planning board Veer Singh Lopoke, District President  (Urban) Shiromani Akali Dal Upkar Singh Sandhu, Principal Secretary to Deputy CM Mr. P.S.Aujla, Secretary Local Bodies Ashok Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat, Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh and Commissioner Municipal Corporation Pardeep Sabharwal.
