Speaker Sandhwan slams BJP govt for marginalizing farmers and agriculture sector in India

Chandigarh, February 26, 2024: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has said that the BJP-led Centre government has marginalized both the farmers and agriculture.

Emphasising the significance of MSP and sensitising youngsters about it, the speaker announced that “MSP Why is it necessary?” Essay competitions will be held in colleges on the subject so that the youth of the country and the state can be aware of it.

Speaker Sandhwan said that it is the need of the hour to raise the voice in favor of the farmers and let them get the value of the crops grown like their sons.

He said that in the past and also in the present time, agitation was started by the farmers regarding their rightful demands. He said that an effort is being made to make the present new generation aware of agriculture by conducting essay competition.

He said that essay competitions are being conducted in colleges on the subject of MSP and the winning students will be given cash prizes of 51 thousand, 31 thousand and 21 thousand respectively.

Sandhwan said that the Center should accept all the demands of the farmers without any delay, including enacting the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Since then, the central governments in power have made such policies that both farmers and agriculture have been pushed to the margins.

The speaker said that when the central government had promised to fulfill the various demands of the farmers in the year 2021 and till now the demands have not been implemented.

He said that now why are the farmers being prevented from going to Delhi to implement the demands accepted in the past.
