SIRSA URGES MAHARASHTRA CM TO RESETTLE RESIDENTS OF PARTITION ERA COLONY

New Delhi, August 3 : The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara General Secretary Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa has urged the Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Devendar Fadnavis to help resettlement of Mumbai Partition Era Colony situated at Mumbai Sion Koliwada Refugee Camp.

In a letter written to CM, Mr. Sirsa said that conditions of residents of Mumbai Partition Era Colony situated at Mumbai Sion Koliwada Refugee Camp is very pathetic. He said that due to the negligence of the Government agency and absence of Building Housing Society, the condition of the buildings has gone worse to deplorable. He informed him that there are around 1008 Punjabi families residing in this colony. They became refugee in 1947 after Indo-Pak Partition and has been living in this chawl for last 60 years. He said that now, they have received a notice from Mumbai Municipal Corporation which has declared this building dangerous and ordered people to evacuate their homes immediately without re-settling them.

He further said that the problem is they all are very poor people and have no other place to go.

Mr. Sirsa said that there is no surety by the BMC about the timeline of this project and whether they will be resettled there or not.

He said that under such circumstances families living in this Chawl may kindly be temporary resettled somewhere in Mumbai till their new flats are re-constructed and handed over to them.

He hoped that CM will take up the issue a sympathetically and in resettlement of these families.
