Moga, The police department has suspended an SHO, ASI and three constables posted at the Charik police station in Moga district for allegedly torturing a youth and taking bribe from him.
Confirming this, a senior official of the Punjab Police said Sukhpreet Singh (23) of Umriana village had given a written complaint to the senior authorities of the police department that SHO of the Charik police station Harry Boparai and a few other policemen abducted him from a local guest house two days ago.
“The cops had beaten me mercilessly in the police station leaving injury marks on my body. Later, the SHO took Rs 70,000 from me and my family members after which I was released from their detention late in the night the same day,” he said.
The youth alleged that the policemen came to the guest house and took the record register with them. “They took five persons, including me, to the police station and we were beaten-up,” he said.
He claimed that his family members approached the SHO, who allegedly took Rs 70,000 from them to release him, and threatened to register a false criminal case against him.
Apart from SHO Harry Boparai, ASI Harwinder Singh and constables Gurjit Singh, Omkar Singh and Jagmohan Singh had been suspended. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against them.
SSP Raj Jit Singh Hundal has asked the DSP (City) Gobinder Singh to investigate the matter and take legal action accordingly.
