SGPC objects to attire in ‘Dishoom’

avtar-makkarAmritsar, The SGPC has urged Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairperson Pahlaj Nihlani to remove the song “Ishq ka marz” featuring actress Jacqueline Fernandez from the upcoming movie “Dishoom”.
She is seen wearing a small “kirpan” on her waist in a dance sequence.
The committee has also sought an apology from the makers of the movie for hurting Sikh sentiments. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the kirpan resembled the sacred Sikh article of faith worn by baptised Sikhs.
“The way it was worn by the actress makes a mockery of the sacred article and religious symbol which is an integral part of Sikh faith. The makers of the film have incorporated this dance sequence in a malicious manner. They have been asked not only to submit an apology but also remove it from social websites immediately,” he said.
DSGMC legal notice to director, heroine
Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa has served a legal notice to the director and heroine of the movie for hurting the sentiments of Sikhs.
The song depicts the actress — Jacquelin Fernandez — dancing sporting a “kirpan” which is one of the five compulsory articles of faith worn by a baptised Sikh.
Talking to mediapersons, Sirsa said the video was highly offensive and an insult to the Sikh tenets and customs. He claimed that according to the Constitution of India it was the right of the Sikhs to wear a “kirpan” and a heroine wearing it while dancing on a song could not be allowed. He said the team of the movie was contacted over the issue and when they failed to send any reply, he was forced to adopt the legal course over the matter.
In his letter to Nihlani and makers of “Dishoom”, he has even threatened to initiate criminal proceedings if the song was not removed.
