SGPC executive authorises Makkar to take final call on Panj Piaras

Chandigarh, October 22:  The executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee after more than three hour long marathon meeting authorised President Avtar Singh Makkar on the suspension of Panj Piaras who had summoned the Takht jathedars yesterday to explain their conduct onOctober 23.

It may be mentioned that Makkar had yesterday suspended Panj Piaras, two ragis of Darbar Sahib, two secretaries of the SGPC and two others raising a lot of controversy.

Addressing a news conference, Makkar said he was concerned with the people’s anger and demanded that action must be taken against the police officials responsible for the killing of two Sikh protesters in Behbal Kalan.

Regarding the arrests of some persons in the cases of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, he urged the government against harassment of the innocents.

SGPC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur later said Makkar had been authorised to take decision about Panj Piaras which should be taken in the spirit of the sentiments of the Sikh community.

he said the Sikhs have been feeling hurt over the incidents during the last few days and the upsurge could not be ignored.

He fwlt that certain major decisions taken during the last some time had given the impression that these were not based on merit.

he was of the opinion that all decisions should be taken keeping in view the collective will of the Sikhs.
