Kapoori/Shambhu/Ambala: Amid Indian National Lok Dal (INLD)’s planned march from Ambala to dig the SYL canal across the border, police on Thursday cordoned off the main Kapoori bridge.

Anti-riot police in full gear is preparing for formation at Ghaggar bridge, Shambu, which has been sealed.

A drone was also readied for air surveillance.

Police blocked the lone road along the Bhakra Main Line and SYL canal.

Meanwhile, farmers of Nandgarh, Manauli and adjoining villages alleged police harassment.

Nearly 20 tractor trolleys of the villagers were allegedly forcibly used for fortification at the bridge. “We were also asked to tank up,” claimed a Nandgarh villager.

Punjab Police was mainly deployed at the Shambu bridge. Paramilitary forces have been deployed in agricultural fields along the Punjab-Haryana border.

Police have been allowing locals to move to their fields on foot. Villagers adjoining the naka in Ghanaur said they were requested by local cops to avoid going out. Villagers were seen serving tea to policemen at some nakas.

Police allowed some Punjab villagers going for treatment to an Ambala hospital to cross the Shambu bridge to Haryana.

Meanwhile, at Ambala, the BJP city MLA performed a Shanti havan while the INLD workers started gathering at the local vegetable market.

INLD leader Abhay Chautala is expected to reach Ambala around noon.

The Punjab DGP is making an aerial survey over the Shambu bridge.

Owing to the diversion at various points, there was heavy traffic on National Highway 1.
Punjab Police have welded barricades to create a wall on the Ghaggar bridge.
