Bathinda, After six days of police remand, suspended Agriculture Director Mangal Singh Sandhu was sent to judicial remand for 14 days today.
Sandhu’s counsel Chhinderpal Singh Brar said they would apply for his regular bail in the court of District and Sessions Judge, Bathinda, on Monday.
The police today sought Sandhu’s custody for another three days on the plea that they were yet to recover some papers from his Chandigarh-based friend.
Mangal’s lawyers contested the police claim and said they had already seized all documents.
The district police have conducted searches of Mangal’s properties in Chandigarh, Kharar and at some places in Haryana.
The court also sent Ankush Kumar, owner of Ganesh Fertilisers, who was arrested from Bhawanigarh for producing fake pesticides, to judicial custody.
Police sources said Ankush managed to destroy several documents and bills pertaining to the sale of fake pesticides.
Indermohan Bhatti, SSP, who received his transferred orders today, said the new SSP would take over and would carry on the investigations. “It will take four to five days to reach any conclusion over the properties purchased by Sandhu and his family members”, he said.
