Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Launch: Leaked Specs and AI Teasers Point to a Powerful Flagship Lineup

Samsung is gearing up for the launch of its highly anticipated flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S24 range, rumoured to be just a month away.

Renowned leaker Evan Blass, on the X platform, shared a countdown to the next Galaxy Unpacked event, suggesting a January 18th reveal with the tagline “Galaxy AI is coming.” The leaked spec sheet for the three expected models, namely Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, aligns with previous rumours.

According to the leaked specifications, the Galaxy S24 series will contain three variants, each powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, outside of the United States, Canada, and China, rumours say that the phones will use Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chipset.

The basic Galaxy S24 is said to have a 6.2-inch screen, the S24 Plus has a 6.7-inch screen, and the S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch screen. Camera specifications show that the S24 Ultra has a 200-megapixel primary sensor, while the S24 and S24 Plus have 50 megapixels.

In contrast to the previous versions, the S24 Ultra’s telephoto lens has a zoom range of up to 10x. The S24 and S24 Plus include 10-megapixel telephoto sensors, while the Ultra has twin telephoto lenses – one 50-megapixel with 5x optical zoom (possibly reduced to 10x) and one 10-megapixel with 3x optical zoom. All three versions are said to have 12-megapixel ultrawide cameras as well as 12-megapixel selfie cameras.

According to the leaked specifications, the battery capacity for the S24 is 4,000mAh, 4,900mAh for the S24 Plus, and 5,000mAh for the Ultra. The entire lineup is water and dust-resistant to IP68 standards. The S24 Ultra is believed to be made of titanium, while the S24 and S24 Plus are said to be made of aluminium.

Arsène Lupin on X has supplied photographs that provide a detailed look at the phones in various colours. The design is identical to the 2023 predecessors, while reports indicate the S24 Ultra will have a flat-screen rather than the minor curves seen on the S23 Ultra. Colours include black, grey, purple, and yellow, with further possibilities available through Samsung’s shop.

Hardware-wise, the S24 lineup is iterative, emphasising commonalities with the prior year. The “Galaxy AI is coming” teasing in Blass’ countdown timer, on the other hand, alludes to possibly significant software advancements.

According to reports from last month, Samsung’s generative AI model, dubbed “Gauss,” may be integrated into the Galaxy S24 series, enabling on-device image generation and editing, email writing, document summarization, and coding assistance. Samsung has also investigated employing AI for real-time translation during phone calls, indicating a significant emphasis on AI-infused features to compete with Google’s latest AI breakthroughs on the Pixel.

As Samsung prepares to launch the Galaxy S24, the combination of sophisticated hardware and possibly game-changing AI-driven software features could position these handsets as contenders in a very competitive market, providing users with a compelling blend of innovation and performance.
