SAD says Navjot Kaur Sidhu shirking principle of collective responsibility

MAHESH-INDER-SINGH-GREWAL

Chandigarh, February 26 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said chief parliamentary secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu was shirking the principle of collective responsibility by making charges of corruption against her own government and asked the BJP to take immediate action against her.

In a statement here, former minister and SAD general secretary Maheshinder Singh Grewal said it was strange as to why Mrs Sidhu continued to be part of a government she was so vehemently against. “You are serving as chief parliamentary secretary. You cannot enjoy the privilege of office as well as collective responsibility and simultaneously criticise the government. Morality demands that you resign from your post immediately”, he said.

The akali leader said the BJP should also take the anti party activities of Mrs Sidhu very seriously and take prompt action against her. “No party can tolerate the wild and unsubstantiated allegations being levelled by Mrs Sidhu”, he added.

Mr Grewal said there seemed to be a deeper conspiracy behind the allegations levelled by Mrs Sidhu against her own government. “Mrs Sidhu seems to have made these allegations to impress Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal who is on a tour to Punjab. Mrs Sidhu has already made an announcement that she will not contest the next elections on a BJP ticket and yesterday’s statement seems to be a blatant attempt to woo the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)”, Mr Grewal added.

The SAD general secretary said such behaviour as exhibited by Mrs Sidhu was not part of SAD- BJP culture. “It seems to have been borrowed from the Congress to which her family has been aligned earlier”. He said the SAD- BJP coalition would not succumb to the political blackmail being resorted to by Mrs Sidhu.
