SAD cautions Haryana leaders on SYL digging

Chandigarh, The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has urged the political parties in Haryana not to indulge in activities that will provoke the people of Punjab on the SYL issue. It said the party would never let the project be completed as it would deprive the state farmers of riverwaters.
In a statement released today, SAD secretary and spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said it was unfortunate that the political parties of Haryana, including the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), were issuing provocative statements on the digging of the canal, which would lead to tension in both states.
Cheema said the issue was no longer valid as the Punjab Assembly had passed resolutions for the restoration of the SYL land to the owners. He said it was a matter of life and death for not only the state farmers but also for all Punjabis as the state was already witnessing a drastic depletion of the water table.

Won’t allow misadventure: Dal Khalsa

The Dal Khalsa on Saturday took a dig at INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala for announcing the digging of the SYL canal on February 23, calling the move a political mischief. Party leaders HS Dhami and Kanwar Pal Singh said the people of Punjab would not allow any such misadventure at any cost. They said: “The Chautalas are close to the Badal family and both have connived with each other to harm the state’s interests.” The digging of the canal was next to impossible and Haryana leaders should stop daydreaming about its construction, they added. Deploy forces to prevent bid, says AISSF
The All India Sikh Students Federation (Peer Mohammad) on Saturday asked the state government to seek assistance of the Centre to deploy forces to prevent the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) workers from entering Punjab to dig the SYL canal on February 23. AISSF president Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad said activists of the federation and other organisations would gather at Devigarh village in Patiala on the same day and march to Kapuri village. He announced that they would not only stop INLD workers from digging up the canal but also fill it with earth.
