Revoultionary tributes paid to Comrade Surjeet Singh

Chandigarh, Oserving that since RSS and its Hindutava outfits have stepped up their activities with BJP coming to power at the centre and creating horrible communal polarization threatening unity and integrity of India , Comrade M. A.Baby, Polit Bureau Member, CPI(M) called upon the brave and patriotic people of Punjab to foster the widest mobilization of the secular and democratic forces against Hindutava forces and against other communalists of all hues.

Comrade Baby was addressing a big public meeting held to observe 6th death anniversary of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet , renowned communist leader of international repute and long time General Secretary of CPI(M), at Bundala ( Manjhki) , District J alandhar yesterday evening ie 21st September, 2014. He paid revolutionary tributes to Comrade Surjeet and recalled the glorious contributions made by Comrade Surjeet in upholding the banner of secularism and providing valiant and fearless leadership in struggle against imperialist supported Khalistani terrorists who disturbed communal harmony in Punjab and threatened unity and integrity of India during the eighties. He also elaborately told other contributions of Comrade Surjeet to the communist movement in India . Comrade Baby dwelling on the right wing offensive of the Modi government made an earnest appeal to the left forces to rally to form a broad left platform to fight against the neo – liberal policies, communalism and imperialism .

Comrade Charan Singh Virdi, State Secretary, CPI(M) paying tributes also announced that a research institute named “ Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet Social Sciences Research Institute “ will be set up in Bhakna Bhawan , Chandigarh to conduct research in socio, economic and political phenomena in Punjab.

Others who addressed the gathering included Comrades Bhupinder Sambher, Raghunath Singh, Vijay Misra, Ranbir Virk, Gurmesh Singh , Bhoop Chand Channo and Ram Singh Noorpuri. Comrades Lehmber Singh Taggar and Gurchetan Singh Bassi managed the stage. Comrades Gurmit Singh Dhadda, and Bant Singh Namol presided over the function.

Comrade Rattan Singh, a veteran communist leader was honoured by the village , CPI(M) unit for his contributions to the communist movement in Punjab. He was presented a citation and a shawl on the occasion.
