CHANDIGARH, February 24: Punjab Congress leaders today asked the turncoat politician Sukhpal Khaira not to try to be more loyal than the king by criticising Capt Amarinder Singh and praising his new master Arvind Kejriwal in a blatant attempt to nurture his own chief ministerial ambitions.

The Congress leaders, including Sukhjinder Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Sukh Sarkaria and Navtej Cheema asked Khaira as why was it that someone who had attended the Vidhan Sabha for a few days only was elected to the assembly and parliament by over 42,000 votes and over one lakh votes respectively, while he himself, who had regularly attended the house was defeated by over 10,000 votes and not once but repeatedly. “Merely attending the house without right intentions neither endears you to the people nor wins you their trust as has happened in your case”, they reminded Khaira.

“Capt Amarinder really does not need any certificate from someone like you who has been repeatedly rejected by the people”, senior party leaders told Khaira, while adding, “whether he deserves to be the Chief Minister of Punjab has already been decided by the people not once but on multiple occasions by getting him elected both to the assembly as well as the parliament by the largest and the record margins”.

They reminded Khaira that immediately after Capt Amarinder became the PCC president he (Khaira) issued a statement praising him (Capt Amarinder) to the extent of saying it will mark the beginning of the end for the Akalis. “Now that you have changed your masters and loyalties, you have started finding faults in Capt Amarinder within less than two months”, they told the turncoat, while adding, “you are only exposing your selfish over-ambition that you have been nursing for a long time”.

Advising Khaira to have patience and not to succumb to sycophant temptations too fast, the leaders said, “we understand your compulsive restlessness and state of mind, but at least have some moral courage and a sense of integrity and don’t try to make a fool of yourself by contradicting your own earlier stand and statements and that too so soon when these are still fresh in people’s memory”.
