Ram Temple in Ayodhya to be built with stones; construction may take 36-40 months

The proposed Ram Temple at Ayodhya would be constructed out of stone.

Iron would not be used to build any part of the building, instead, copper would be used to support the construction of 12,000 pillars—which would be built out of stone.

The reason behind using cooper is, that the metal has the durability of more than 1,000 years.

“The Temple building is being planned with a view to ensuring a shelf-life (durability) of a minimum of 1,000 years,” said the general secretary of ‘Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Terath Kshetra Trust’, Champat Rai.

“By using only stones, it will be built in such a manner, that decay due to air, sun, and water would not happen, and the temple would last for at least 1,000 years,” he said.

Larsen and Toubro limited—Indian manufacturing and engineering, etc, conglomerate—is looking after the construction of the Temple.

The IIT-Chennai has been consulted for testing soil strength, and the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, is providing help to ensure the building is earthquake-resistant.

Soil from the construction ground, which is 60-meter deep, is being tested scientifically to ensure the building is earthquake-resistant.

Rai, who is also national vice-president Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), said around 10,000 copper rods would be used for the temple construction.

People can donate the rods.

He said that the time-frame for the temple construction is 36-40 months.

“The construction time may increase by a few months, but cannot be reduced…it is not practically possible,” said Rai.

The Trust was constituted by the Union government to oversee the construction of the temple and its management.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the “Bhumi Pujan”(ground-breaking ceremony) on August 5 regarding the construction of the temple.
