Quit govt if unhappy, SAD tells Joshi

Amritsar/Tarn Taran, Though the state government today agreed to most of the demands raised by the BJP, there was no let-up in the war of words between the leaders of the saffron party and the SAD.
Akali Dal’s Amritsar (urban) president Upkar Singh Sandhu said Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi should resign if he was displeased with the coalition government.
In a statement released here, Sandhu expressed strong exception to the language used by Joshi against Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal and Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
“Joshi is resorting to divisive politics merely to hog the limelight. The equation between SAD and BJP is sour wherever he is present, whether it is in Amritsar (North) constituency or Tarn Taran. If he is not happy with the government, he should walk out and quit his Cabinet post,” he said.
Harmeet Singh Sandhu, SAD MLA from Tarn Taran, also blamed Joshi for “spoiling political atmosphere” in the state. He said they would not tolerate Joshi’s interference in Tarn Taran constituency, and that the SAD would field its candidates in all 23 wards.
He alleged that Joshi indulging in “divisive politics” to ensure his brother Raja Joshi was made head of the civic body in Tarn Taran, “which will not be tolerated at any cost”. He alleged the Joshi family had links with militants during the dark days of terrorism in Punjab.
Joshi hit back at Sandhu, saying the latter should “feel ashamed while levelling such charges against his family”. “Our family has always condemned terrorism and fought against it,” said Joshi.
