CHANDIGARH, Taking serious note the harassment caused to the people of the state during checking by the District Transport Officers/Police, the Punjab Government has decided to implement the ‘Traffic Marshal’ scheme on the Chandigarh pattern.
Disclosing this, while presiding over the Punjab State Road Safety Council meeting here today, the Punjab Transport Minister S. Ajit Singh Kohar said that initially this scheme would be implemented in Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali and Patiala .
Mr. Kohar further said that the Road Safety Council has in principle agreed to the constitution of ‘Road Safety Scheme Division’ to reduce the accidental deaths and injuries on roads. The division would include Enforcement, Education, Health Care, Accident Investigation, Data Collection Maintenance and able staff/officers .
He said that online website has been created by PRBDB (Punjab Roads and Bridges Development Board) in order to mark accident prone areas as ‘Black Spots’ besides training the police officials about the website. He said that 400 GPS system machines have been provided to the police department. He appealed to traffic police officials to go strict against overloaded tractors and trolley’s vehicles apart from stopping the commercial use of tractor- trolley.
The Minister further said that the representatives of Director Health Services, Nodal Officer PWD (B & R) and Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Punjab would be included in the Road Safety Council.
On the occasion, Mr. Hussan Lal, Secretary, Health; Mr. Rajat Agarwal, Excise & Taxation Commissioner; Mr. Jasminder Singh, ADGP, Traffic; Mr. Harmail singh, State Transport commissioner; Mr. Mahesh Garg, Joint State Transport Commissioner; Mr. Gurtej Singh, Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner; Ms. Jyoti Chawla, Assistant director DPI and representative of Punjab Roads & Bridges Development Board, Mohali, Finance and local Government Department were present.
