Punjab Games: Jalandhar swimmers overall champs

Mohali, Jalandhar bagged the overall team trophy in the swimming event of the Bhagat Singh Punjab Games here today.
Jalandhar finished with 53 points, while Amritsar finished second with 33 points. Ludhiana clinched the overall women’s championships with 80 points, while Jalandhar finished second with 47 points.
Ropar’s Jashandeep Singh won the gold medal in the 400m men’s individual medley, while Amritsar’s Vishal Sharma won the silver and Ludhiana’s Anmol Jindal got the bronze. In the women’s 400m individual medley, Sangrur’s Harleen Kaur won the gold medal, Ludhiana’s Shubh Karman Dhaliwal won the silver and Jalandhar’s Shivangi got the bronze.
Harleen added another gold medal — taking her tally to three gold and two silver medals — with an easy win in the 200m breaststroke. She finished 15 seconds ahead of silver medallist Mani Mehtab Dhaliwal of Ludhiana.
In women’s hockey, Jalandhar and Fatehgarh Sahib registered facile wins to reach the final. Jalandhar thrashed Patiala 7-2, while Fatehgarh Sahib drubbed Amritsar 11-1.
In men’s hockey, being held at Jalandhar, Ropar defeated Kapurthala 5-3, while Mohali edged past Amritsar 3-2 to set up the final clash.
In the semifinals of the women’s kabaddi (national style) event, held at Bathinda, Ferozepur defeated Sangrur 25-22 and Jalandhar edged out Tarn Taran 35-34 to reach the final.
In judo, being held at Ropar, Jasbir Singh of Gurdaspur won the gold medal in the men’s 60kg category. Mohali’s Gurjant Singh won the silver.
