Punjab Congress MLAs to declare assets every year: Channi

Bhatinda/ Talwandi Sabo October 3: The Punjab Congress Legislature Party chief Mr Charanjit Singh Channi today ended his 7-day ‘Jawani Sambhal Yatra’ at the holy town of Sri Talwandi Sabo with the promise that the party MLAs elected in February 2017 elections would declare their every year. The eradication of corruption, unemployment and the menace of drugs would be the three top most priorities. He said that the feed back he got from the people on the way was they want to change the system, so congress will give them this option, we will first put our house in order and make everything accountable and transparent. It was in this context that the party had now promised that its MLAs would make public their income tax returns every year.

On the issue of putting an end to the drug menace, Channi promised two-pronged strategy, both long term and short term. Action would be taken immediately to end the supply chain by taking action against the front men. The party would also order time bound judicial probe with report to be submitted within three months to take action against political leaders patronizing drug mafia. He also said that the cases pertaining to S Sukhbir Singh Badal and S Bikram Majthia of corruption and drugs would be reopened and time bound inquiry would be done.

He reiterated that the Congress would provide one job to each family. He made it clear that he was not resorting to rhetoric. The Congress government would fulfill each and every promise.

Slamming the Badal government for just selling dreams to the youth of Punjab Channi said that the Badals promised every youth unemployment allowance of Rs 1000 per month. But till today only 1913 unemployed were paid this allowance in whole of Punjab since 2012. He said the information had been procured under the RTI Act by party’s RTI cell activist Dr Jasdeepak Singh.

Channi also presented the figures of the AAP government in Delhi headed by Mr Arvind Kejriwal. He said the Kejriwal government had provided employment only to 1417 persons after coming to power while the number of unemployed with the employment exchanges was 13, 49, 794. He asserted the party was misleading the youth in Punjab by offering lakhs of jobs while its performance in Delhi on this crucial front was virtually nil. He called upon the people in the state to assess the promises made by AAP in Punjab in the context of the performance of the Kejriwal government in Delhi.

The cycle yatra that had started from Chamkaur Sahib had received massive response on the way. The seven day yatra was flagged off by Sh Harish Chaudhary, while S Ravnit Bittu received it at Ludhiana followed by S Raja Warring at Moga and today S Partap Singh Bajwa received it at Bhatinda. In total 25 assembly constituencies were covered in this yatra and 1000 cyclists accompanied Mr Channi from Sri Chamkaur Sahib.
