Hundreds of Indian students facing ‘deportation’ from Canada stage protest
Bathinda, November 25: The Punjab Congress on Friday lashed out at the Badal government’s dictatorial high-handedness after a policeman on duty at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bathinda rally was abused, and reportedly also manhandled, by state minister Sikandar Singh Maluka.
Strongly condemning the incident, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) demanded an immediate probe and stern action against Maluka for his imperious behavior.
The cop was only doing his duty in asking the minister to park his car on the other side, as part of the security arrangements at the rally venue, PPCC leaders Manpreet Singh Badal, Ajaib Singh Bhatti and Gurpreet Singh Kangar said in a statement issued here.
Maluka not only used foul language against the policeman, Kanwaljeet Singh, who was merely doing his job, but also tired to overrun him, said the PPCC leaders, demanding to know what the cop’s fault was.
Reports suggested that the minister also threatened to slap the policeman, and even tried to overrun him with his car, the PPCC leaders said, adding that this kind of high-handedness and arrogance was common among the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) members, across the party’s rank and file. From the chief minister down to the lowest level worker in the party, everyone believes themselves to be the supreme commanders, with complete control over the lives of the people of the state, the PPCC leaders said.
They demanded that the prime minister take cognizance of the incident and order immediate and exemplary action against Maluka.
