Visits central jail in Bhatinda to meet S Ravneet Singh Bittu

Faridkot/Kotkapura/Bhatinda, October 15: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap singh Bajwa today appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony at every cost in the state rather than taking law and order into their own hands.

He made this appeal to the people in the wake of tense situation in the state after visiting Faridkot and Kotkapura hospitals.

“Everybody has right to protest and it can be done peacefully” he said while terming the police action as “insensitive and miscalculated”. He maintained the intelligence set up had virtually collapsed and asked why the warning given by some miscreants was not taken seriously.

He called upon the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and the Home Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal take own moral responsibility of this tragic incident in which two people had been killed and several seriously injured during the firing by the police. he said the situation continued to be very tense.

Mr Bajwa along with hundreds of Congress workers visited the family of late Gurjit Singh Bittoo of Village Sarawan and Harkrishen Singh of Village Behbal Khurd (Niamivala)who were killed in the police firing yesterday. He also visited civil hospital at Faridkot and Kotkapura where he inquired about the well-being of the injured admitted after the brutal police action yesterday. All the patients narrated how the police brutally used forced to disperse the people protesting peacefully.

He accused the Chief Minister and the Deputy chief minister of resorting to diversionary tactics to divert the attention from anger among the peasantry saying this was the firtst such instances. Earlier, a young girl was molested and pushed out of the Orbit Transport owned by the Badals on Moga – Kotkapura road on May 1 last. That led to agitation by the people wherein Badals were forced to enter into settlement with family. At the same time , as anger was spreading all over the Punjab over the incident as this was the culmination of the cases involving Badal buses, a modus operandi was set in motion to divert the attention of the people. As a part of the strategy it was planned to take out religious exhibition on wheels from May 5 which continued for a month. It was the virtually same situation. Farmers have been angry against the Badal Government. Damage to the cotton is one issue, Cane growers and basmati farmers have also been venting their anger too. Farmers staged a six daylong dharna to press for their demands which ended on October 13. Intriguingly, the incident of sacrilege is reported at the same time from Bargari village in Faridkot that triggered the agitation. Participating in this agitation were again farmers. The government used brutal force on the peaceful demonstrators. The intention is to divert the issue.

S Partap Singh Bajwa today went to meet S Ravnit Singh Bittu MP, Ludhiana in the central jail Bhatinda. S Ravnit was sent to the judicial custody by the Bhatinda court yesterday.
