New Delhi: With New Zealand leading the 2-match Test series 1-0, Pakistan were hoping to fight back with a win or at least a draw in 2nd Test to prevent a whitewash.
The visitors were 158 for 1 at Tea on final day and were hoping to continue the same in post-tea session to draw the Test match.
The Azhar Ali-led squad had not lost a wicket until the score of 131 but then went on to lose all 10 by 230 – that is 10 wickets for just 99 runs in a Test match – with 9 of them in the final session of play.
New Zealand went on to clinch the match in a dramatic final session of the second Test, winning by 130 runs in Hamilton to sweep the series 2-0.
Pakistan were chasing a gigantic 369-run target but were literally on a run-a-ball chase when they reached tea on the final day at 158 for 1.
Kiwis skipper Kane Williamson must have been thinking that he might go on to see the series slip from his hands, seeing how Pakistan were progressing.
But, the Kiwis fought back in thrilling fashion to bowl out the visitors and claim back-to-back victories and win series in dominant manner.
Sami Aslam scored 91 and Azhar Ali 58 while for New Zealand Neil Wagner took 3-57 and Tim Southee 2-60.
New Zealand, who won the first Test in Christchurch by eight wickets, claim their first series win over Pakistan in 31 years.
