Paddy purchase begins in Abohar

p2Abohar, October 3
The official purchase of paddy began at the new grain market here today. Balluana SAD MLA Gurtej Ghuriana and Arhtiya Association president Pramil Kalani inaugurated the purchase. Pungrain officials offered Rs 1,450 for paddy. However, farmers and arhtiyas alleged millers were yet to be allocated duties for the state and Central government agencies.
Since the Punjab Mandi Board had not responded well to repeated requests to get the sheds and boundary wall repaired, farmers feared the paddy produce might be hit by inclement weather. Meteorological experts said temperature would range from 18 to 36 per cent, but humidity would be about 49 per cent this week.
Officials said Pungrain, Punsup, Markfed and the Food Corporation of India would purchase paddy in Abohar. Last season, the arrival of parmal variety of paddy was 1,54,977 quintals and basmati 2,78,742 quintals.
