Number of people getting killed in road accidents rising in Punjab

Chandigarh, September 21 : More people are getting killed in road accidents in Punjab than during militancy. What is alarming is that the nuymber is increasing.

Replying to a question in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha today, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said 3317 persons were killed and 4635 injured in Punjab during 2013-14 while the number was 3538 killed and 4329 injured during 2014-15.

The corresponding figures were 1248 and 1689 during 2015-16 till July 31 last.

Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar stated in a written reply that the number of PRTC andPunjab roadways plus Punbus buses in the state respectively till March 31, 2007 was 1316 and 985 while the comparative figures till March 31, 2015 were 1666 amd 873 respectively.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was absent during the session.
