Chandigarh, September 19 : Non Resident Indian particularly Punjabis and Sikhs residing in North America have urged the Congress high command to show the courage to expel those Congress leaders who are advocating opening up of vends of opium and poppy husk in Punjab and asked AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi to break his silence over the issue.
In a statement released from the party head office here today, the Chairman High Power Core Committee and Chief Legal Advisor of the SAD in USA, Mr. Jaspreet Singh Attorney said that though after two days of silence Capt Amarinder Singh had now come with the statement against opening up of such vends when the outrage of people have forced him to do so, it is most intriguing that he remained a silent spectator at the functions where such demand was made.
“By making such an announcement, the congress leaders have deeply hurt all the non- resident Punjabis living in all parts of the world,” said Jaspreet Singh who also wondered as to why no action was taken by the Congress High Command against Bhullar for this indiscretion. Sukhpal Singh Bhullar is the son of former Punjab Minister and senior congress leader Gurchet Singh Bhullar
He further said that if the Congress party was really committed to what Amarinder Singh has now said then it should show courage to expel these leaders who are opening advocating use of drugs in the state. He also maintained that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi himself is answerable for his ” loyalist ” youth congress leaders pleading for opium vends in Punjab from a public platform. He reminded Rahul Gandhi for his statement about the use of drugs in the Punjab in which he tried to malign the Punjabi youth by branding them as drug addicts. He also questioned the silence of Capt. Amarinder Singh who did not object to the announcement made like a poll promise.
The SAD Leader also opined that that the Congress leader Sukhpal Bhullar’s appeal of opening up trade of narcotics in state to Amarinder may be an outcome of the pressure of the law enforcement agencies on the drug smugglers and peddlers under the SAD-BJP regime in the state and urged the AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh to break their silence the issue.
Mr. Jaspreet Singh Attorney said that the statement of the Congress leader has once against proved on who is indulging in the trade of narcotics and who wants to destroy of the youth of the state just only to make money. He said that as the SAD-BJP government particularly Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal has made a commitment to safeguard Punjab from clutches of such elements and have directed the law enforcement agencies to act in toughest possible terms against such elements they are feeling the heat and are facing crisis of ‘survival’ of their trade.
