Non-bailable warrant against Ramdev for ‘beheading’ remark

Rohtak, June 14
A local court on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrant against yoga guru Ramdev in a case pertaining to his “beheading” remark made during a speech delivered at a ‘Sadbhawna Sammelan’ organised here last year.

The Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Harish Goyal had earlier issued bailable warrant against the yoga guru. Prior to that, Ramdev had been summoned by the court under Sections 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke the breach of peace) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Advocate O.P.Chugh, the counsel for the complainant, told The Tribune here today that Ramdev did not appear in court despite the summons as well as bailable warrant. Hence, the court today issued non-bailable arrest warrant against him. August 3 has been fixed as the next date of hearing in the case, he added.

The complaint in this regard had been filed by Congress leader and former Haryana Minister of State for Home Affairs Subhash Batra, who had also sought the registration of an FIR against Ramdev.

Supporting the chanting of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ during the RSS-sponsored ‘Sadbhawna Sammelan’ organised at Rohtak on April 3, 2016, Ramdev had maintained that “Thousands of heads would have been cut on opposing the chanting of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, if we were not bound by the law.”

Following that, Batra had lodged a police complaint against Ramdev, who has been accorded the status of ‘Brand Ambassador’ by the BJP government. However, as the police did not register an FIR, he approached the court.
