Nine mobiles found from Amritsar jail

Amritsar, Nine mobile phones and 10 cigarette packets have been found in the high security Amritsar Central Jail. The cigarettes were thrown on the premises from outside, said officials.
A jail inmate, Sandeep Singh, has been booked as he was found possessing a mobile phone. Two phones were found abandoned and the remaining six mobiles along with 10 packets of cigarettes were thrown from outside. This is not the first such incident.
The jail authorities have a number of times urged the Public Works Department to install a barbed fence outside the boundary wall of the newly constructed Amritsar Central Jail. It has also asked the authorities to construct a watchtower. As the distance between two towers, numbering four and five, is huge, it becomes difficult for the security personnel to see the movement of suspicious elements trying to throw prohibited material inside the jail. The police said two cases have been registered.
The new Kendri Sudhar Ghar (Amritsar Central Jail) is located in a densely populated area and the jail authorities have repeatedly expressed their concern over this.
