Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Police have once again come under scrutiny after they failed to trace a senior police officer, who had gone missing two years ago. Man Singh Tekam, who was a Deputy Superintend of Police (DSP), was with Bhopal headquarters when he went missing.
With no means to support the family, his wife is now forced to engage as a daily wage labourer to make ends meet.
A native of village Chandania in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, Tekam used to live in a rented quarter in Ahirpura, Bhopal. He boarded a bus from local Nadra bus stand for Satna, but never reached there, his family claimed.
His family, after failing to locate him, had lodged a complaint with the Jehangirabad police station in Bhopal. However, the police could not find any trail leading to their senior colleague in the last two years, the family alleged.
Tekam’s wife Mohwati Singh said that her husband as the SDOP Pawai in Panna had enquired into a case involving a local muscleman who had threatened him. Later, Tekam faced a defamation suit and was subsequently suspended by police. He was then attached to Bhopal headquarters and salary was also discontinued as a punitive measure.
“With no means other to take care my family, I work as a labourer to earn,” Mohwai said.
Tekam’s daughter Renu said when she last spoke to her father, he wanted them “to sell their Shahdol house and return to their native village, Anuppur”.
A distraught Renu now says that she and her brother would do farming but would never think about any job in police force.
Pritam Singh Thakur, Thana in-charge of Jehangirabad, said that DSP’s acquaintances in Panna, Khargone, Harda, and Bhopal are being contacted, “but nothing concrete has been found as of now. The matter is still under probe”.
