Canada Uber Driver Tells Passenger He Would Have ‘Kidnapped Her If It Was Pakistan’
Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi today condoled the death of Nirankari chief Hardev Singh in a car accident in Canada.
One of his sons-in-law also died in the accident.
He was travelling from New York to Montreal when the speeding car went out of control and over turned.
It may be mentioned that the genesis of militancy in Punjab is traced to the confrontation between the Sikhs and Nirankaris leading to a clash on the Baisakhi of April 13, 1978 in which 13 Sikhs were killed. The rise of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale started with that tragedy. The edict issued from Akal Takht in June, 1978 directing the Sikhs to sever all socio-economic relations with the Nirankaris continues to be in force.
Hardev Singh was the son of Gurbachan Singh who was gunned down by Ranjit Singh on April 24, 1980 to avenge the killing of 13 Sikhs. His son took over after his killing.
Born on February 23, 1954 in Delhi he received his elementary education at home. After his early schooling at Rosary Public School, Sant Nirankari Colony, Delhi, in 1963 he joined Yadavindra Public School, Patiala. Later he joined Delhi University. He joined the Nirankari Sewa Dal in 1971 as its primary member.
He married Savinder Kaur (born January 12, 1958 in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Modi tweeted, “Baba Hardev Singh’s demise is tragic & a great loss to the spiritual world. My thoughts are with his countless followers in this sad time.”
Sonia Gandhi expressed shock and grief over passing away of Nirankari chief.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, “ Hardev Singh’s demise is a huge loss to the Nirankari Mission. May God give his followers the strength to bear the pain of this tragedy”.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur said he was deeply shocked and pained.
Punjab BJP’s former president Kamal Sharma said he was pained to learn about the sad demise of Nirankari spiritual.
