Chandigarh, September 11: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today said the people in this border state should not stop expecting anything from the Narendra Modi government as the Prime Minister had refused to take notice of even the pleas made by the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal from the stage for providing relief to the farmers. He asserted even the new international terminal of Chandigarh Airport that Mr Modi inaugurated today was sanctioned by the UPA government which had constituted special purpose vehicle for its construction.

He said Mr Modi had come to the capital of Punjab and Haryana and it was expected that he might make some announcement to take this border state to the higher orbit of development as he had been claiming his main agenda to be development but he had once again ditched the people.

Mr Bajwa said industry was closing down and incidence of farmers committing suicides was on the rise. The state was virtually bankrupt with no money to carry on development works. Punjab was under staggering debt and given this situation, the people had expected that the Prime Minister might announce some relief but the hope had been belied. He pointed out that Mr Modi had announced liberal financial package for Bihar in view of Assembly elections but had betrayed the farmers of Punjab who had provided much needed food security to the country.

He called upon the Chief Minister Mr Parkash singh Badal to come out with the white paper on assistance the state government had received during UPA government and under Modi regime and stop misleading the people that the Congress had always meted out step motherly treatment to Punjab. He asked Mr Badal why was he forgetting Central University at Bathinda, Oil Refinery at Bathinda, IIT at Ropar and Indian Business School at Mohali that was sanctioned by UPA while showering praises on the Modi government for allotting just one institute for Amritsar.

Referring to the new terminal of Chandigarh airport, he said the Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal had been claiming it to be a new airport at Mohali although it was known to all that it was addition to the existing Chandigarh airport. Moreover, it was not Punjab airport but only had its entry from Mohali. Special purpose vehicle was made during the UPA regime to facilitated the construction of this International Airport with help of Haryana Govt. U.T. Chandigarh and Punjab Govt. It had once again been proved that Mr Sukhbir Badal was master of deceptions.

He lambasted Mr Modi for his attack on the Congress on the disruption of Parliament and reminded him that this form of protest was fine-tuned by his Bharatiya Janata party that did not allow the Parliament to function. He said it seemed he was now castigating his own party’s leaders like the veteran Mr L K Advani and Mrs Sushma Swaraj, including Mr Arun Jaitley.
