MODI GOVERNMENT RUNNING AWAY FROM FARM DEBT WAIVER-SUNIL JAKHAR

Chandigarh, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur Mr. Sunil Jakhar said that anti-farmer face of BJP was exposed today on the peasant issues in the Lok Sabha when the central government was completely fled from farm debt waiver in the shielding cover of former RBI Governor.

Mr. Jakhar was talking to media persons outside the house regarding written statement given by Union Finance Minister in the Lok Sabha today regarding the issue of farm debt waiver. He said that in spite of making debt free farmers in the country, the Modi Government is engaged in making farmer free nation. He said that Modi government, which has shown the dream of doubling the income of the farmers till 2022, has been consistently making anti-farmer decisions. Mr. Jakhar informed that the Union Finance Minister has replied in writing that the BJP government of the Center has not spent a single penny for the farmers’ debt waiver in the last three years. He said that the Union Finance Minister is now running away from reality by referring to the former governor of RBI. He questioned the Prime Minister that Mr. Narender Modi has become the Prime Minister by taking votes from farmers and not the RBI Governor. So the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is Accountable for poor condition of the millions of farmers of the country, not the Governor of RBI.

Mr. Jakhar further said that the despite of its limited financial resources Punjab government, led by Captain Amarinder Singh, had felt the pain of the farmers as a pretext to forgive the debt of the farmers. But the central government is not helping anyway to the state. He reminded the Union Finance Minister that they were the only farmers of Punjab who, by making themselves debt ridden, made the country self-reliant in grain production.

Mr. Jakhar further said that even the double face of the Akali Dal’s MPs in the Lok Sabha also exposed today. He said that none of the Akali MP thought it appropriate to make any pressure on the central government to help the farmers of Punjab during the ongoing discussion on farm debt issue in Lok Sabha. He said that the Akali Dal has always been seeking votes in the name of peasant issues, but its MPs get mute on the peasant issues in Parliament. He said that the Akali Dal has surrendered the interest of Punjab to BJP.

Mr. Jakhar Quoting the previous government said that the then Prime Minister, Sardar Manmohan Singh had set an example by waiving loans of farmers across the country. He said that Mr. Manmohan Singh is one of the most prominent economists in the world, but it is strange that the current Modi government is following which economists to run away from farmers’ debt waiver.
