Milestone man Tillakaratne Dilshan completes 9000 ODI runs

Sri Lanka England CricketNew Delhi: Sri Lanka opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan became the 15th player in ODI history and the fifth from his nation to go past 9000 runs in the limited overs game.

The experienced batsman scored a well made 101 against England in the seventh and final ODI before getting out to Chris Jordan. Dilshan playing his 300th ODI game, also registered his 18th ton.

The batsman struck nine fours and one six in his 124-ball innings. Dilshan who has been one of the pioneers of Sri Lankan cricket, needed 97 runs to complete the feat of 9000 runs and currently has a total of 9004 runs.

In the list of highest ODI centuries scored, Dilshan lies in the 13th spot and is tied with South Africa’s AB de Villiers and former Aussie batsman Mark Waugh.

He also became the first batsman to score a 100 on his 300th ODI appearance.

The innings will be a big boost to Dilshan ahead of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand from February.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have already pocketed the seven-match series, 4-2. A win on Tuesday will mark complete domination against the visitors.
