Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan Resigns

New Delhi, A day after Nationalist Congress Party ended its alliance with Congress in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan submitted his resignation to Maharashtra governor on Friday. On Thursday, NCP ended its 15-year old alliance with the Congress on an acrimonious note ahead of the assembly elections. NCP’s move had pushed the Chavan led government into a minority.
Election for the state Assembly will be held next month Earlier on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister and NCP’s leader in the assembly Ajit Pawar had squarely blamed Chavan for the failure to hammer out an acceptable seat-sharing arrangement to save the alliance. Pawar had also alleged that this was for the time that a Congress CM had ignored the NCP completely.
