Raja Warring to contest againt BJP’s Ravneet Bitu from Ludhiana
Ottawa,Ottawa-area Progressive Conservative MPP Lisa MacLeod is ruling out a run at the federal level in the riding soon to be vacated by former foreign affairs minister John Baird.
MacLeod, who pulled out of the Ontario PC leadership race two weeks ago, says she was re-elected to a four-year term last June and intends to stay at Queen’s Park until 2018.
MacLeod issued a statement saying she received a lot of encouragement to run federally but decided with her husband that it was not a “realistic option” for their family.
She says they decided their nine-year-old daughter, Victoria, “deserves a break from door knocking, phone calls and late night campaign meetings.”
MacLeod, who was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 2006 in the riding of Nepean-Carleton, threw her support behind deputy PC leader Christine Elliott when she withdrew from the leadership race.
Elliott, the widow of former finance minister Jim Flaherty, is being challenged by London-area MPP Monte McNaughton and Barrie MP Patrick Brown.
