Kiran Bedi takes oath as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry

Kiran-Bedi-1New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi on Sunday took oath as the Lt. Governor of Puducherry. She was appointed as Governor of Puducherry on May 22.

Puducherry Chief Minister nomination Narayanaswamy who was named by Congress party yesterday will meet Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi on May 30 to seek permission to form the government.

Since the exit of Veerendra Kataria in July 2014, the post of the Lt. Governor was vacant in the state. In the mean time, Lt. General AK Singh, LG of Andaman and Nicobar Islands was holding the additional charge of Puducherry.

The Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi when she was appointed the state governor had said that her focus at the moment was to put the Union Territory on the tourist map of India, as it is a great destination and deserves no less attention than Goa, or any other popular tourist spot in the country.

“It’s all about taking Puducherry to greater prosperity and putting it on the tourist map of India. Puducherry deserves it, no less than Goa. Puducherry was part of my Union Territory cadre as a police officer and I always longed to come here, because Puducherry was a great destination,” Bedi.
