India vs England: Karun Nair batted with broken bat en route to his epic triple hundred

New Delhi: On Monday, Karun Nair became the talking point of the nation when he became only the second Indian to score a triple hundred.

But many of us didn’t realise that en route to the milestone, the 25-year-year batted with a broken bat.

And according to the Indian cricket board, the Karnataka batsman even handed the broken piece to the umpire so that he can latter collect the same as a memoir.

He, in the process, became the first Indian to convert a maiden Test century into a triple hundred.

But his score of 303 no is still not enough to beat Sehwag’s two triple hundreds, 309 against Pakistan in 2004 and 319 against South Africa four years later.

India, in reply to England’s first innings total of 477, declared at 759/7d to take a 282-run lead with just under 10 overs’ play left in the day.

India have already won the five-match series, thanks to victories in Visakhapatnam, Mohali and Mumbai. The series opener in Rajkot ended in a high-scoring draw.
