David Warner, one of the pioneer openers from Australia, has announced that he has competed in his final game for Cricket Australia in his home country.
Warner has already announced his retirement from the Test and ODI format. The opener played his last ODI at the World Cup Final against India, while the Pakistan series was his final appearance in Tests. The Twenty-20 International format was the only exception, but it looks like Warner is looking to step down from the shorter format as well.
David Warner admits on playing his final T20I match in Australia
After Australia won the T20I series against the West Indies, with the series final match-up being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, opener David Warner revealed that this match would be his last T20I match in Australia. Warner revealed his intentions after winning the ‘Player of the Series’ recognition.
“It was good to have a break and play the franchise stuff. I’ve got a lot of time off after the New Zealand series, go to the IPL before we embark on a World Cup in the Caribbean. Was quite surprised an opening bowler 145kph and swings it not trying to get me out. Go the Caribbean, the boundaries aren’t too big there. I’m well and truly done, it’s time for the youngsters to come through and show their talent,” Warner said as quoted by ESPNCricInfo.
Warner could be seen next in action in an away series against New Zealand in a three-match Test series. The opener could also be featured in the T20 World Cup, which he said to be the final T20 Tournament of his sparkling career.
In his overall career, David Warner has amassed 5438 Test runs with 20 tons and 15 half-centuries. In the ODI format, he picked up 3013 runs with ten tons and 13 fifties. Furthermore, he scored 1150 in the T20Is and secured a ton and nine half-centuries till now. For Warner, his career has been nothing less than exemplary, and he could cap it off at the T20 World Cup in the US and West Indies.
