HYGIENICALLY BEST HOSPITAL IN PUNJAB TO GET AWARD OF 50 LAKH- VINI MAHAJAN

Chandigarh September 20:  The Punjab government has constituted a state level evaluation committee to assess the general conditions of each government hospital in the state and on the basis of its recommendations the hygienically best hospital would be awarded with a cash award of Rs. 50 lakh.

            Disclosing this here today Principal Secretary Health, Ms. Vini Mahajan said that the step to evaluate each and every government health institution was a part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which has been implemented in state government hospitals. Instructions have been given to the Civil Surgeons across the state to ensure cleanliness and basic hygiene in the hospitals under their control, She said that the Best Hospital Award would be given on the basis of the overall cleanliness in the hospitals from both in and out,  sanitation and hygiene, disposal of hospital waste, infection control, availability of support services, hygiene promotion etc.

            She also said that to give award to the best hospital, a special checklist has been prepared to evaluate these hospitals. A quetionair of about 250 questions has also been prepared on the basis of thse questions the Evaluation Committee would evaluate the health institutions. Minimum 70% marks should be obtained by the hospital before being evaluated by the special teams, she added.

            The state level Evaluation Committee consisted of Deputy Director, Dr. Pawan Jagota, State Nodel Officer Qauality Assurance, Dr. Parvinder Pal Kaur, NO Ludhiana, Dr. Pradeep Sharma, SMO Kharar, Dr. Sutinder Singh, Dr. Raju Dhir and Jaswinder Singh representative of an NGO from Ropar. The hospitals have been given one month to ensure the basic qualifying necessities before being nominated for the cash award.

            Ms. Mahajan further said that about 75% the award money would go to the Rogi Kalyan Samiti meant to ensure cleanliness in hospitals while the remaining 25% would be disbursed amongst the staff members who have worked hard to make this cleanliness drive a success. She also said that all the formalities to evaluate the hospitals would be completed by the first week of October. She said that during the first phase only district level hospitals would be taken up while the CHCs, sub- divisional Hospitals and Primary Health centres would be taken up in the second phase.
