Chandigarh, Expressing his serious concern over the reported attempt by Fatehgarh Sahib SDM to humiliate Congress legislature Kuljeet Singh Nagra by leveling false allegations against him, CLP Leader Sunil Jakhar said such attempts will not be tolerated.
He will request the Vidhan Sabha Speaker to conduct independent inquiry into the controversy. Jakhar said that the Congress workers and legislatures had always tried to keep the govt officers especially women in high esteem but
there can’t be any compromise on ensuring their dignity too. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had recently observed that officers were by and large incapable of redressing grievances of public and were also not fair in their service conduct. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal had also in a letter last month advised govt officers to ensure the constitutionally prescribed respect to legislatures which the latter rightly deserve.
He said that in the past seven years differences had surfaced sometime between Congress legislatures and some bureaucrats since a section of the govt officers were following the dictates of political workers of the ruling alliance in the state. There can be no denial to the reports that encroachments on govt land and property owned by NRIs broadly galore in Fatehgarh Sahib and some other districts. In most of the case the halqa incharge appointed by the ruling parties were
squarely involved in abetting the encroachments to serve vested interests. He felt that extra constitutional powers enjoyed by halqa incharge in each constituency were the root cause of the unfortunate situation that prevails in administrative circle. This, he added, was not good for democracy.
