Amritsar,  To mobilise support for reacquiring land at Haridwar’s Har Ki Pauri where a historic gurdwara once stood, the supreme Sikh body, Akal Takht, besides the SGPC, DSGMC and others, have called upon the Sikh community to perform “ardas” after reciting “Japuji Sahib” at their nearest gurdwaras tomorrow (May 14).
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh reiterated that the Sikhs residing across the country and overseas must take part in the religious programme to lend their support to the cause.
He said Gurdwara Gian Godri associated with Guru Nanak Dev once stood near Har Ki Pauri on the bank of the Ganga in Uttarakhand, but it was demolished in 1978-79.
The Jathedar said efforts were being made to convince the Uttarakhand Government to hand over the land to the Sikh community to raise a gurdwara there.
SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar said following the directions of Akal Takht, all gurdwaras under the SGPC would hold the path of “Japuji Sahib” at 9 am on Sunday.
He said at present, the gurdwara site was being occupied by an office of Scouts and Guides. He said the land dispute was caught in the technicalities of two governments of UP and Uttarakhand.
Badungar said the Sikh community must sink their differences, political or personal, and come together on a platform to re-establish the Sikh place of worship at its original place. Meanwhile, Sikh leader Gurcharan Singh Babbar and his supporters have already announced to recite “Japuji Sahib” and perform “ardas” at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar tomorrow.
