He should’ve quit ahead of questioning : BJP

Sangrur, BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh here said Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia should have resigned ahead of appearing before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the drug smuggling case.Chugh, who was here for the party’s membership drive, said by doing so, Majithia, who holds a constitutional post, would have saved his government the “embarrassment” it was facing at present. The BJP leader said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should himself have told Majithia to quit in the larger public interest. He denied the Punjab BJP was split over the drug issue. He said the party supported the Badal government against the Congress’ no-confidence motion as they did not want to create a political crisis in the state. On the proposed gherao of BJP president Amit Shah during his visit to Punjab next month, Chugh said the Congress MLAs should, in fact, mete out such treatment to their party vice-president Rahul Gandhi. He alleged Rahul had appointed Gidderbaha MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring the Youth Congress president despite him having faced allegations of links with drug peddlers.Chugh termed as baseless the charges levelled by Congress leaders against BJP state president Kamal Sharma’s personal assistant for having links with smugglers. The BJP leader said they had enrolled 6 lakh members and their target was 15 lakh by March 31 in Punjab. He claimed the BJP would have its units in all 12,000 villages of Punjab once the enrolment drive was over.
