Hate speech: Police told to probe complaint against Ramdev

ramdevRohtak, A court in Rohtak has asked the Haryana Police to investigate allegedly hate speech complaint against yoga guru Ramdev.
Hearing the plea moved by former Haryana minister Subhash Batra, the court of Additional CJM Ashwani Kumar directed a Superintendent of Police to submit the report on by April 30.
Ramdev had come under fire from various quarters over his inflammatory remark of “beheading” those who oppose the chanting of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” during his address at Sadbhavna Sammelan organised here last Sunday.
Congress leaders, led by former Haryana Home Minister Subhash Batra, had lodged a police complaint against Ramdev, while the CPM has sought legal action against him.
A group of civil society members, comprising Congress leaders, lawyers, a university professor and businessmen, alleged in the complaint that Ramdev, who had been accorded the status of a brand ambassador of yoga, had a fascist approach and wanted to impose the RSS agenda on the people.
Members of the group said they had urged the Haryana Government to take strict action against its brand ambassador.
The CPM had alleged the Sadbhavna Sammelan was a sponsored programme of the RSS and BJP government.
The yoga guru had said that but for the rule of the law, he would have “beheaded” lakhs for refusing to chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, drawing sharp condemnation from the Opposition parties.
Ramdev’s outburst came against the backdrop of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s recent remarks that he would not chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ even if a knife was put to his throat.
“Some person in a skull cap stands up and says that he will not chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ even if he is beheaded. There is the rule of the law in this country, otherwise let alone one, we can behead lakhs,” Ramdev had said in a veiled attack on Owaisi while addressing a Sadbhavna Sammelan in Rohtak on Sunday.
