HALDIRAM BHUJIAWALA APOLOGISES FOR USING PICTURE OF SRI DARBAR SAHIB ON NAMKEEN PACKETS

New Delhi, June 28 : The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa has said that after he issued legal notice to Namkeen Makers Haldiram Bhujiawala, the company apologized for the mistake of using picture of Sri Darbar Sahib on its Namkeen packets and has assured that in future this will not happen.

In a statement issued here today Mr. Sirsa said that he had received reply from his legal representative in which he had said company owner s not aware of the fact that it is against the principles of Sikhism to use or display images of Gurudwara Sahib or any paintings/writings of Gurbani/ Paintings of Guru Sahibs with things which are not connected to any sacred, religious or pious cause/purpose.

The DSGMC General Secretary further said that his legal advisor has also said that it has never been the intention of his client to defame, show disrespect or insult the holiest Gurudwara Sahib. He said that the company has been using/displaying the images of other things related to Indian culture, tradition lifestyle, cuisine etc. and for the same reason my client has also been using/displaying the photograph of Shri Harmandir Sahib on the packets of its product.

He further said that it was disclosed by the company that the photograph of Sh. Harmandir Sahib is displayed only on the packet of 200 gm Kaju Mixture.to desist and refrain from using/displaying the photograph of Shri Harmandir Sahib on the packets of its product and in any material connected with its product for purpose of sale/marketing of its product. He further said that the company also undertaken to stop production of and remove all packaging materials, bearing the Photograph of Shri Harmandir Sahib.

Mr. Sirsa expressed satisfaction at the reply and action of the company and also appealed to all the members of the society to keep in mind religious sentiments of not only the Sikhs but all communities while using pictures for their products so as to avoid repeat of such incidents.
