Gangster Jaswinder ‘Rocky’ Sister join Akali Dal

Chandigarh, Feb 7 : Rajdeep Kaur, sister of slain gangster-turned-politician Jaswinder Singh ‘Rocky’, joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Fazilka on Wednesday.

Kaur (43), who joined SAD in presence of former deputy chief minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal, said the Akali Dal was “the only party in Punjab that works for people from downtrodden families”.

She also received a ‘siropa’ from Badal during her induction at Akali Dal’s “poll khol” rally, which is aimed at Captain Amarinder Singh government. Kaur also addressed the rally that was held at a local grain market.

In the 2017 polls, Rajdeep had reportedly tried to secure a Congress party ticket from Fazilka assembly but when Akali MP Sher Singh Ghubaya’s son Davinder managed to get the Congress ticket, she fought as an independent and secured more than 38,000 votes.

Her brother, Jaswinder Singh ‘Rocky’, a 39-year-old gangster-turned-politician lived a life of crime and infamy. He was booked in at least 23 cases, including murder, and had been acquitted in 18. Later, wanting to become a politician, he hobnobbed across parties. In the 2012 polls, he managed to secure over 39,000 votes as an independent candidate, but lost to BJP’s Surjit Kumar Jyani by a margin of 1,600 votes from his native town of Fazilka.

He was murdered in Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh in 2016.
