Flop show by Cong, state in deeper crisis: Khaira

Chandigarh/New Delhi, February 26

Leader of Opposition and AAP MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira today termed the about one-year rule of the Congress government as a “flop”, alleging that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has disenchanted the people by back-tracking on his poll promises.
Talking to the media here, Khaira said Amarinder got huge electoral mandate for his promise of complete loan waiver to the farmers and farm labourers. “The agrarian community now feels betrayed and has lost all hopes from him,” he said.
“The cumulative farm-related loans amounted to about Rs 1 lakh crore when Amarinder took charge. The government has only waived loans amounting to Rs 170 crore, which is even less than 2 per cent of the total debt amount.
“As many as 350 farmers committed suicide since the Congress government took charge,” he said.
Besides, the government had failed to create job opportunities and eradicate the drug menace. “On the contrary, the available jobs are being done away with,” he said, citing the closure of two thermal power plants.
Referring to the proposed an international event at Qila Mubarak in Patiala, Khaira said the government’s priorities were wrong. A state reeling under a huge debt could ill-afford such events, he added.
Opposes move to end power sop to SCs
Chandigarh: Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira has written to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh urging him to withdraw new instructions imposed by the state government in providing free electricity to Scheduled Caste, Backward Classes and non-SC BPL domestic consumers. He said as per the state government’s earlier instructions, subsidy on account of free electricity supply up to 200 units per month was being provided to beneficiaries, but as per the new instruction that came into effect from November 1, the state had imposed limits of connected load of 1 KW and consumption not exceeding 300 units per annum in the preceding as eligibility for availing this subsidised supply.
